Sekoh:
Well folks, I am goinig to give this my best shot this weekend. I am have been workiing with an investigative reporter for over a year about an ALgonquin Land Claim and Uranium Mine(exploration) ROUND 1 & now 2. For those who are not familiar with this area....it has been a problem in the past. Last year, Bob Lovelace was jailed for this same reason and has suffered tremenodusly because of it since. SO have many, many others, for more reasons, including the pollution that runs from this sort of exposure. This situation at Sharbot Lake Ontario, has brought out many issues of concern. Firstly, if you are NOT aware, that when this URANIUM MINE protest happened the first time, allegedly initially there was MOHAWK WARRIOR presence at this location, but they had to walk away for many reasons. The First reason, was that this particular piece of Land, belongs under the Protection of the Iroquois Confederacy, but is currently being negotiated with the ALgonquin NAtion ONLY and the Province of Ontario. ONLY. This Tract of land, aka as the Butternut Tract, and known to be part of a NORTH SHORE CLAIM under the protection of the Iroquois Confederacy (mohawk) Last year, after all that went on with the protest and jailing...the first round shut down, and NEW negotiations started. If you are not aware, ARDOCH ALGONQUINS (there are 2 now aka Anisinobi)) that Bob Lovelace came from are NOT involved in this round. But, the other community known as Shabot Obajiwan has made a deal to go ahead. Please read the following article published in the Ottawa paper. _____________________________________________________ OTTAWA — Although a deal has been reached to allow for exploratory drilling for uranium in the Sharbot Lake area, the Algonquin man who went to jail for protesting the contested land after a court order disallowed it said the Ardoch Algonquin First Nation has not signed on. “As far as we’re concerned, we’re still in consultations with the Ontario government,” said Bob Lovelace, the retired chief of the Ardoch Algonquin First Nation. “We got a letter saying they were still interested in the process, and working together, and then a week later we get a letter saying they’ve cut a deal with the Shabot.” The land near Sharbot Lake has been disputed for the last year and half, and initially, both the Shabot Obaadjiwan and the Ardoch Algonquin groups were on site in physical protest. A court injunction ordered the groups off the land in 2007. In February 2008, Mr. Lovelace was sentenced to jail and had to pay a $25,000 fine for disobeying the court order. He was released in late May when the Ontario Court of Appeal reduced the sentence and the fine against him was stayed. Over the weekend, an agreement was signed by uranium mining company Frontenac Ventures, the province, Shabot Obaadjiwan and Snimikobi Algonquin and the Algonquins of Ontario. George White, chief executive of Frontenac Ventures, was hopeful the situation was finally “put to bed.” He said drilling will likely begin when the snow melts this year. “The Ardochs literally are a renegade group who don’t have any standing. They dropped out of the court case...they do not want to participate in the process,” he said. “We’re excited about what happened,” he added. “We’ll be very cognizant of concerns regarding the environment and health and safety.” Mr. White said the company has given certain “sensitive lands” back to the Algonquin. “There are a number of other situations that involve give and take,” he said. Mr. Lovelace said there is “a lot of disappointment” in the Sharbot Lake area. “It’s too bad that this group of Algonquins have decided to acquiesce to the pressure,” he said. “We’re not pleased with the deal. It represents the same colonial relations that Canada has had with native people for years.” He said many non-Aboriginal groups were also upset by the deal. “It’s totally counter to the local sustainable economy that’s been built over the years,” he said. _____________________________________________________ In turn for this article....the lady Doreen Davis representing Shabot Obajiwin, in using my family HERITAGE, name and much more in order to do this. When I took this to the ART and OPP that have been visiting me, this is what I received as a response from the people USING my family heritage and names to do so(without consent) here is what i was sent form her.... SHABOT OBAADJIWAN FIRST NATION 3102 RR#2 SHARBOT LAKE, ON K0H 2P0 PHONE – 613-279-1970 FAX – 613-279-3070 EMAIL – chiefdoreen@aol.com December 16, 2008 Kwey Kwey Mrs. Cathy Duchene I, Chief Doreen Davis of Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation are giving you a formal notice as of December 16, 2008. I have been in contact with the OPP and under their direction I am informing you of this discussion by registered letter. Chief Doreen Davis ___________________________________ In the First round of URANIUM EXPLOLARTION, I have a letter from numerous Government agencies, advising me that this is JUST exploration and that approx. 10 holes weere to be drilled, but thats not what happened the first time. Again the first time, 109 Uranium holes were driled and 30000 acres of land stripped. Oh, and for the record, I also have letters from the Algonquin Land Claim office, which is at 31 Riverside Drive PEMBROKE stating that, NO ONE else can submitt a claim until this one is finished. hmmmmm. Oh I should state that i was at Shabot's businesses because they are selling smokes on highway 7 (known as the moccassin trail through Sharbot Lake), because they are hanging Iroquois Confederacy Flags? So, I now take my evidence and meet the media with it that we have been working so hard behind the scenes for, in a peaceful fashion in order to STOP THIS. I sure don't want to see any more of us go to jail because of bad deals with the Governemnts, but mostly.....when I meet my Ancestors face to face and they ask me why I didn't step in....at least I will be able to face them with the truth, from my heart...just the way it has always been. This town of SHARBOT LAKE, carries a family name...MINE. When BOTH communites admit the have had to ADOPT a SHARBOT into the ALGONQUIN NATION, while on his deathbed, then carry their name as NUMBER 1 on their membership list so they can facilitate this, then recuit, yes recruit 4500 others aka NON STATUS(which I am not against for the right reasons, this is the wrong way and will only do harm to the real non status) through a Government Agent, wouldn't you want to do something too. I made a promise to my Grandaddy, and I plan on keeping it. But, I will carry forward the way MY family always have, with Love and Peace, with my brain and heart. Throughout History, from 1777, when the Sharbots FIRST were at Sharbot Lake, they have ALWAYS been known as STRONG, HONEST and HARD WORKING people....heck, when the settlers FIRST came to Sharbot Lake, they asked my Ancestors to move farther down the Lake because some were afraid of Indians. My Great Great Grandad did so, and created Peace amoungst this community. I even have the proof in DOCUMENTS. I too will create PEACE on behalf of my Ancestors, because thats what I was taught to do. They guide me daily, and I know they will NEVER let me down. Skennen'kowa Okwarakon |
