BEAR BUTTE:
URGENT MESSAGE TO ALL DEFENDERS!! A Hearing will be held by the Commerce Committee at 10:00 AM (Central Time) on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, in Room 464 at the State Capitol, Pierre, SD, regarding House Bill No. 1309. This Bill will prohibit any new alcohol licenses within one mile of Bear Butte. It is not a perfect bill but at least is a first step to preserving the integrity of this sacred mountain. We encourage anyone who can to come to this Hearing and express your support for this Bill. Our strong presence will show the SD legislature that we are deeply concerned about the integrity of Bear Butte. Please come early to sign up at the door in order to testify on behalf of Bear Butte. The following is the Statement from Defenders for your information. If you wish only to testify that you are in support of this statement, and you attend the hearing, you will still need to sign up and verbally testify when your name is called. Otherwise, your written support of Defenders’ statement may also be emailed to us at bhdefenders@msn.com and will be presented along with our statement. If you are unable to physically attend, but wish to testify, your written comment may be emailed to Defenders’ office at bhdefenders@msn.com and we will print out and deliver your message. You may also fax your written comments to any lawmaker at (605)773-6806. Your fax will be hand delivered to the lawmaker's Capitol mail box. (A separate fax is needed for each lawmaker contacted.) You may also email the Representatives or Senators in the following form: rep.lastname@state.sd.us OR sen.lastname@state.sd.us We recommend comments be emailed to: rep.bradford@state.sd.us OR sen.twobulls@statesd.us Please pass this on to your email friends. Also, if you can, print it and give to those without internet access so they may participate if they wish. Thank you for your help. Charmaine White Face, Coordinator ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Defenders of the Black Hills P. O. Box 2003, Rapid City, SD 57709 Phone: (605) 399 -1868 Statement on State of South Dakota, Eighty-Third Session, House Bill No. 1309 Defenders of the Black Hills is an all volunteer organization working to protect, preserve, and restore the environment and Native American sacred sites and burial places in western South Dakota among other locations. We strongly encourage the South Dakota legislature to approve of House Bill No. 1309. Our position regarding Bear Butte is for a development-free buffer zone of five miles around this National Historic Landmark and Native American sacred site. Although House Bill No. 1309 does not meet our objective, we would consider the passage of this Bill, “An Act to prohibit the issuance of certain alcoholic beverage licenses for establishments located near Bear Butte” to be a first step and good faith effort on the part of the state of South Dakota. If possible, we would recommend an amendment to the Bill to include a provision for enforcement, and also that the land controlled by the state of South Dakota at Bear Butte be declared an alcohol-free area with signage posted at the boundaries. Thank you to Representatives Bradford, Gassman, Lucas, Nygaard, and Sigdestad and Senators Two Bulls, Gary Hanson, Maher, and Sutton for introducing House Bill No. 1309. Respectfully submitted by Charmaine White Face, Coordinator Feb. 4, 2008 -------------------- Never Give Up..... For there is always Hope, Always!

Yes And NO....
The Black Hills Are Now Sovereign Territory Of Lakota: Don't You Think THEY Should Ask For "License" For Disturbution And Sales First? And Then Only By Agreement Of The People Of The Lakota With The Agreement Of The Traditional Leadership? The Distribution And Sale Of "STUPIDITY IN A BOTTLE" From This Point Should Be The First License Sought By [U.S.A.] As It Has Been A Traditional Weapon Of COLONIALISM: It Should Be Removed From All Our Reserve's And A Subsitute In Place For Those Whom Can't Cope With This Change: By Smoking Or Eating Sacred Medicine. It Calms The Nerves And Sharpens Focus When Taken In Small Amounts Daily. Something Will Have To Used: Better It Natural: Better Something Our Own People Can Grow And Share Without Prohibition. The Creator Made A Medicine For Everything.....License First: Then Consent: Then Heavy Taxation: To Prevent EXPLOITER'S And SCHEMER'S From Getting A Foot Hold Among The Next Generation To Come Upon The Lands Of Forever And Always Turtle Island.....The GhostChild. |
