It Has Been Said, Words of our Elders

It has been said, "Trading blame drains our planet of spiritual energy and causes great harm to all land and life. Don't try to control others. The spirit dwells within all of us."

It has been said, "Be satisfied with the order of our Great Creator, whose light does not blind us, and does not lead us into confusion, instead, His light brightens the road, so that we can absorb its great wisdom and live like humans... perhaps there is still time for this land to live on under the laws of our Great Spirit and our Great Creator. These are the things we desire. We are very sad for our life of today... it is heading down the direction we have created for ourselves. The tide is gathering, and the high tide which sweeps us away may not be far off."

It has been said, "Be self-sufficient so that you are not dependent upon others for survival. Don't rely on supermarkets for food and don't be entirely dependent upon wages. What will happen to you if some day the capitalist's world, as we now know it, collapses?"

It has been said, "We look upon our ancient teachings as a guideline used in order to avoid a downfall for our mistakes. We have learned that through our conduct we can accomplish good and bad deeds. The old ones say that we have gone through at least three world catastrophes and each world was destroyed by the same error in man and woman."

It has been said, "Make good choices... when new opportunities are introduced and new advantages come, be cautious and accept the least harmful things. Choose which path you will follow... the materialistic way or the Creator's way. Do not get careless as time passes and forget your vows to the Creator and the spiritual laws. If you do, it will be a sign you have forsaken the Great Creator."

It has been said, "Avoid pitfalls... we often step into these very traps because we think they will improve our lives. On the contrary, they can drain our mind and strength. Deceit is common among world leaders. Advantages lifestyles often lead us astray. Modern concepts will not help balance the natural order on earth and in the universe. Pitfalls are experiences that teach us facts of life, such as that life is not always a path of roses."

It has been said, "Listen to your elders, and you will learn that Divine laws and religion are important. At one time Wabanaki people learned wisdom, knowledge, and prophecy through their elders in order to live wisely. It is a pity in these changing times, that they hear no more, see no more, nor do they understand. Yet these wise teachings are the key to happiness and health."


The old elders have told us once... we believe all life on our earth lives and goes by life cycles... therefore all must rest and renew for the coming cycle. Whatever it may bring, either good or bad, in some part depends on man's or woman's behavior. When this cycle ends, we give thanks to our guiding spirits and mother earth for their care. We give thanks for our health and nourishment, for completing the cycle with all life, and we pray and ask for the same during the coming new cycle. Now it is up to us to make this real. We must perform self- analysis and change our behavior and character. We must not pretend to be something which we are not, which results in friction. We must not deceive each other or others. Let us become realistic and establish a goal to have faith in the all-powerful Creator, for we are not above the Creator's laws. Let our Creator be the Judge according to our Creator's plan. Let us establish a goal of happiness and love. Happiness and love that is gentle and understanding and forgiving in helping others find their path. If we can use our lives to light up the lives of others... then we have done a good deed. We must ready ourselves to serve and work for the Great Spirit, not in search of supremacy or superiority as a goal for self. That aim is not successful in reaching the purpose which we set out to do.

As you work, your problems will either go away on their own, or solutions to them will come to you... sometimes also by seeking help from elders or spiritual followers who are following a good path. Beyond this, you will be building an inner strength that will shield and protect you when future prophecies are fulfilled. I will share with you a few good instructions to follow that will help your survival in every way.

Use wholesome words when you talk to or describe people. Uplift, and do not hurt others..!!
Ask the spirits to listen to you and to bring the rain of loving care down upon the whole world, and down upon others..!!
Guard against disturbing or loud behavior..!!
Teach children, when you can, to respect others, and tell them why they should do it..!!
Think of the earth as mother earth or earth mother... a spirit person who is a living organism who feels and responds..!!
During these days of prayer and fasting, moon cycles, do not dig in the earth, since mother earth is joining you during this period of peace and preparation..!!
Talk with those who are close to you of the past, be it spirit or person, the present, and the future. Discuss what is going on in the world, and try to determine where it is healing. Do not postpone the strengthening of your bonds with family members, or a close friend, be it someone you feel very close to who can help you walk. In this world that we now live in... business seems to always come first. We must come to realize that love ones will not always be with us. We should find a way to love them before it is to late..!!
Review your own conduct during the past year, and the conduct and attitudes of people as a whole..!!
Make an honest self-examination, and see where you can make improvements. You will probably need help from a mentor or an elder who have been working with you for awhile. This can be a very touchy topic sometimes, and one that can be easily ignored. We need to look together at the world around us, and attempt to make reasonable assessments of what is going on. During prayer and fasting, moon cycles, self-examination is also in order. If we hope to do better than we have and we must take a good look at ourselves and be honest about what we find..!!
Make plans for the forthcoming year. Prepare in advance for the known and unknown... especially when we are helping others to heal. This will include a review of the knowledge of others who have been shown what is coming in the future, to see what they portend/foresee. Keep current with what is going on in the world, for events will tells us how close we are to what is coming. Look back at what has happened, and see what of this will be duplicated. What you will be doing throughout the entire cycle will be preparing for the unexpected. If you are not sure what to do, ask those ones who have been walking in this area for awhile, and they will be able to help you..!!
Remember that the Creator, earth mother, father sun, mother moon, and other helper spirits... the controllers of movement here and in the universe... are making their own plans, based upon the course the great play is following. Try to determine what this course might be, and prepare accordingly. Remember also that while we are doing our part, the traditionalist followers, as best they can, will still be doing the necessary things to keep the world and the universe in balance and harmony. Never forget to support them in this, journeys are hard sometimes, and at the end of our journey, we will know that we have done a good deed..!!

If I may, I'd like to discuss the entire post with you and hopefully others will join in as well.

For starters though, I'd like to discuss the above quote from your post. It sort of intertwines with the Hopi survival teachings as well. However, even though we have tried to be as self sufficient as possible over the years, well, the times they are a changing.

We are trying to adapt, but it is starting to feel like failure and the future bleak. Part of this is a failure to produce food as we were once able to. There is something wrong in the atmosphere here, combined with intermittent drought and/or some type of hole or anomaly that drifts over and the sun's rays burn the plants no matter if they were watered or not.

This is most disturbing. Twenty years ago I was able to grow huge gardens with vast amounts of yields and would preserve and dry food. That is not possible now.

Inflation is eating up our existence. In the current western euro system, we are not able to live totally off the grid. For those living outside of reservations, things are not looking bright for survival. This may include those living on some reservations, I'm not sure. But, the more a people relies on outside energy, water and food sources, the harder people are going to fall.

We have a heads up and are kicking into gear already for winter. I am investigating solar energy, berms....truly, the square box houses are not the thing to survive in. Earth homes built into berms, or small adobe with thick walls would be better to survive in.

Those home would be better for survival due to the staggering cost of heating fuel, whther LP, natural gas or electricity.

The cost of living, especially here in the lower 48 is sky rocketing out of control, and the poor will not be able to cope.

Just some thoughts....

You are absolutely correct in your words. It is getting harder to live off the grid. The land is not the same anymore for growing. The times have change. And it's ever harder on a limited budget. The few dollars that I am able to make weekly buys less and less all the time.
