Algonquin Land Claim
Are you ready for this?
8.9 Million Acres of Ontario is currently under negotiation with the Algonquin’s of Pikwaganagan at Golden Lake Ontario.
This latest claim, takes in a lot more area than the original negotiation started out to be.
The claim for the most part has stayed the same, but now it comes down into Southern Ontario just a little North of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
On a sadder note, in history, the Mohawk Nation, which is part of the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy, were Allies to the British, were at WAR against the Algonquin’s who were allies to the French. When the war was over, the Mohawks brought the prisoners to Golden Lake as part of our deal with the Crown, and at the time Golden Lake was NOT their home base. It was a place for the prisoners (Algonquins) to start a new life. Prior to leaving, the Algonquin’s made a Friendship agreement with Six Nations, and Six Nations agreed to allow the Algonquin’s to stay, and they received hunting and fishing rights in order to maintain a lifestyle. Some ask me, how I would know this to be true. Well, the evidence is there and it was my family of Mohawks that helped return these prisoners on behalf of the British Crown. We were rewarded land for this duty, but……someone stole it, and now it is tied up in this land claim. Certain Algonquin communities know this to be true, and conscientiously are not involved in this land claim.
Also, there is an issue with how my family carry 100% Algonquin NON EXPIRING STATUS, with NO evidence of lineage, when my family are known and written about in History as Mohawks. Why would we profess to be Mohawks and then move into Algonquin Territory with the enemies? No, my family has a lake and town named after them, Sharbot Lake Ontario. All the history states, and there is Archaeological and documented evidence that this family were Mohawks and on Mohawk Territory.
These agreements were known as Wampums and Peace Pipe Treaties.
I think we are all well aware that the British won this war, hence the Corporation of Canada as we know it today.
This land claim is being negotiated on what’s known as Unceded Territory, and the Government will always announce this publicly and have. Many of us stood on parliament hill this year for the anniversary of the Residential School apology and heard them declare parliament hill as “Unceded Algonquin Territory”, while right behind the buildings on what’s known as Victoria Island stand a Six Nations Longhouse.
Remains were dug up on this island, taken to the Museum of Civilization and held until a few years back, as well as artifacts. While the Archaeology department will explain that there is NO possible way that these remains could be Algonquin, as the Algonquin’s were not in this area at the time, and because they were refused DNA testing and any other testing in order to prove the lineage, these remains were picked up at the museum of Civilization and taken to an Algonquin reserve and repatriated as Algonquin people. I might add that the Algonquin Nation was paid $250,000 to bury these remains, that should have been UNTOUCHED in the first place.
So, we get back to the size of this land claim, and what it is allegedly taking in, which includes;

Algonquin Park (which has been negotiating timber and more all along)
CFB Petawawa (2nd largest military base in Canada)
And the City of Ottawa………..plus, plus, plus.
Chief Kirby Whiteduck of Pikwagnagon says he speaks on behalf of the 9 other communities which are;
Antoine, Bancroft, Bonnechere, Greater Golden Lake, Mattawa/North Bay, Ottawa, Shabot Obaajwan, Snimikobi and Whitney Algonquins.
While I could dissect these communities, I will simply state that I recently spoke with Kirby and he run away from me when I asked him how he figures he can attempt this land claim while knowing that the land was Six nations land. He actually ran away from me, and lied. He has no problem admitting that he knows most of the people, including one in particular is NOT An Algonquin, but this scam continues on. On a personal note, I advised him that we have the evidence but he simply said that “ I was standing on Algonquin Territory” and that was final. He has refused any further consultation with me.
Further to this, I received the membership list of the people in this land claim. There had to be a certain amount of people registered in order to file this claim, as the Algonquin’s of Golden Lake is not a very large reserve.
There was a company that was hired to control the membership, and all you had to do was take in paperwork to either Golden Lake or send it to this company and you would get put on this membership list, receive a Membership card and you would be declared an NON STATUS Algonquin.
When I first seen this list, I was shocked at the names on it. I grew up in this area, and the names of some of the people shocked me. When my sister and I were growing up amongst these same people on the list, they called us “SQUAWS”. When I was at the Golden Lake powwow this year, I ran into one of the members on this list, who grew up right next door to us, and our families are intermarried…”since when is your family Algonquin?” and all he could do was snicker and say “well, we are”. Then I asked him why he called us names when we were kids and he just snickered again. He did realize though that my Mother was Mohawk and my father was Algonquin, yet he didn’t know the difference.
Now, these membership cards for the NON STATUS communities. These have caused a lot of problems. They have been known to have been used in stores in order to avoid paying sales tax. They are not Government issued band cards, therefore they are worthless. Try using an Air Miles card as your Costco membership card……can’t happen.
So, then we get to the issue with the hunting and fishing rights. This to should ONLY come with a LEGAL Status card, not a membership card(which people have paid as much $45 for one). So these people who have membership cards think they can hunt and fish like other Status Indians, but this is not the case. These members, and sometimes innocently try to hunt and fish without licences because they think they are Non Status Indians. There are some in the court system right now trying to fight this.
As quoted in the Mohawk Nation Drummer, Sept. 2009; “The Algonquin Land claim is the ONLY claim of its kind in Ontario because it relates to the unfinished business of treaty-making”, then it continues “this means there is a question of asserted Aboriginal rights and title in the claim area”, boy, this is going on right under everyone’s noses.
This situation could turn bad for Canada, the Crown Corporation in many ways. Trust is a powerful tool, and I can state, I can NOT trust this Crown corporation to do what’s right for all of us, but I do know who can be trusted.
I will trust in the Creator. The Creator gave us ALL the same message, check it out before you judge this phrase. Everywhere we go, no matter what race we are from, people are all saying the same things. Even people who claim they are non-believers of the Creator or higher power. Pretty much everyone thinks that the world is coming to an end. With this comes all the other things, such as Meteors striking the earth, Nuclear wars, even global warming, all allegedly going to end or earth as we know it.
This is not true…..no matter which beliefs you have, none of them say the earth is going to end. In the bible, its called the book of Revelation…….not Revelations. The bible is not finished, these books used for religion, none of them are finished.
Our Creators message tells us we can heal the earth, and we can. So far, we all have made mistakes….fix them and move on. It’s Our time………
According to the Seventh Generations Prophecy,
The Last Prophecy
Seven Generations after contact with the Europeans, the Onkwehonwe (original people) would see the day when the elm trees would die.
The Prophecy said,
”Strange animals would be born deformed and without proper limbs, huge monsters would tear open the face of the earth, the rivers would burn like fire and the air would burn the eyes of man.”
According to the Prophecy of the Seventh Generation, the Onkwehonwe would see the time when the birds would fall from the sky, the fish would die in the water and man would grow ashamed of the way that he had treated his Mother and Provider……
THE EARTH.
Finally, according to this Prophecy, after Seven Generations of living in close contact with the Europeans, the Onkwehonwe would rise up and demand that their rights and stewardship over the Earth be respected and restored.
According to the wisdom of this Prophecy, men and women would one day turn to the Onkwehonwe for both guidance and direction.
It is up to the present generation of Kanienkehaka (people of the flint) to provide leadership and example to all who have failed.
This FAKE land claim, and the process is not going to help. Is someone enticing a Nation to Nation issue? That’s what it looks and sounds like.
Trust is a powerful tool. If I am asked to Trust in the Crown Corporation to do the right thing and honour our Original Agreements or Trust in our Creators message….well, I will trust in the Creator, because I have never met the Crown, but I have met the Creator.
